FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

medical marijuana

  • What is the difference between recreational and medical cannabis?

There are quite a few differences between medical and recreational cannabis. The first being pricing. Pricing for medical cannabis has remained fairly stable since legalization. Second is quality and access. While both recreational and medical cannabis need to meet high standards of production and packaging medical cannabis users have access to a larger variety of products. Medicinal cannabis users also have access to products not available in their home provinces, whereas recreational users are somewhat limited to what's available in their area.

  • What is the difference between CBD and THC?

Both THC and CBD are cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. THC, also known as tetrahydrocannabinol, is the compound that causes the feeling of being "high" that is generally associated with marijuana and cannabis use. CBD, also known as cannabidiol, does not produce the same psychoactive effects as THC. Both cannabinoids have different benefits for a variety of conditions.

  • What are some common methods of consumption?

There are many ways to consume medicinal cannabis. Cannabis can be ingested through edibles, oils, and capsules. Patients can also apply a topical ointment for localized pain relief. Cannabis can also be consumed by inhaling through smoking or vaping, though this is not recommended as inhalation can have adverse side affects on lung health.

  • Who should use medical cannabis?

Medical cannabis has been used for thousands of years to help treat and manage a number of health conditions. Research has shown cannabis has numerous benefits and can help manage many conditions including arthritis, cancer, epilepsy, migraines, eating disorders, nausea, insomnia, depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and much more! It is important to acknowledge your entire medical history when considering medical cannabis as a treatment option. Medical cannabis is not recommended for young adults under the age of 25.

licensed producers and ordering

  • How do I order?

After completing the registrations process, authorized patients order directly from their licensed producer online or over the phone. Health Canada requires that the delivery is made to your address or the address of a designate through a courier or Canada Post. If you're ordering for the first time it is recommended you order over the phone. This allows your licensed provider to answer any questions you may have and ensure you are ordering the right product for your medical needs.

  • How much can I order?

Patients are able to order the lesser of one month's supply or 150 grams.

  • How often can I order?

Patients are able to order as often as they wish from their licensed producer, however the amount ordered in 30 days may not exceed 150 grams.

  • Is shipping included and how is my order shipped?

Shipping is generally not included, but many licensed producers offer free shipping when ordering above a certain amount. Packages must follow strict guidelines including containing product specific information, childproof containers, discreet packaging, and other measures to hide the scent.

ACMPR & license to grow

  • What is ACMPR?

The Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (also known as ACMPR) allows individuals with a medical need and authorization access to medical cannabis through three different avenues. Individuals can either continue their access to medical cannabis products by registering with a licensed producer, they can register with Health Canada to grow a small amount of marijuana for personal medicinal use (License to Grow), or they can designate someone to grow marijuana for them.

  • How do I apply for it?

Our knowledgeable team of cannabis experts can help you with the application process and prepare you for any other considerations you may need to take into account. To learn more about the License to Grow click here. To book an appointment with a cannabis expert click here.

  • Do I still need a licensed producer?

We recommend that our patients remain registered with their licensed producer regardless of their License to Grow for a number of reasons. First, it can take anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks for Health Canada to approve your application for the License to Grow. Second, you will need additional time to prepare your growing area, and for your plants to grow and mature. Third, it's best to have a backup incase there is an unforeseen circumstance. To learn more about growing your own medical cannabis click here.

  • What will I need to grow cannabis?

Your need will vary depending on whether you grow your medical cannabis indoors or outdoors. For both indoors and outdoors you will need Cannabis Act Personal Production approved starter material (such as seeds or seedlings), a secure grow area, approved and food-safe pest and weed control, and a pH monitor to keep the grow area at a consistent pH.

Additionally, for growing indoors you will need food-safe soil, full UV spectrum lighting, monitored light control, fans and ventilation for indoor air health, and temperature and humidity monitors to keep humidity at a safe level and to prevent dangerous molds.
